December arrives this weekend and with December comes Christmas. In fact, there are only four more Sundays till Christmas and just five Sundays left in the year. Children often seek to improve their behavior when they realize Christmas is near. Perhaps this would be a good time for all of us to examine our behavior; especially as it pertains to worshiping the Lord of Lords and King of Kings. Certainly you should understand that it is a bit ridiculous for us to make a big deal about Christmas and then fail to faithfully show up to worship the very one that Christmas is about. Christmas has to be more about Christ than it is about the celebration and more about serving the Prince of Peace than it is about seeking presents. This is a season for giving marked by our Lord’s willingness to give Himself for us. Yes, it is a great time to give gifts to others, but shouldn’t we also give some of our time to worship Jesus, the very reason for the season?
So as we approach the beginning of the last month of the year, I ask you to be faithful to show up for worship each and every Sunday. If you will be out of town, make sure that you worship wherever you may be. Learn a lesson from children and behave the way God would desire you to behave around Christmas and then continue the practice. Give Jesus the last five Sundays of the year!
