I have often shook my head when I have heard people longing for times that have past. After all, life can only be lived in the present. You cannot jump ahead to days that have not yet occurred nor can you go back to times you have already lived. Yet, when I hear the daily news and am slapped in the face with evils of our present time, I must admit some things about the past or at least my perception of the past seem favorable. I liked being able to watch, listen to, or read the news believing I was getting the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. It was a pleasure to be able to view the daily happenings without the fear of embarrassment because of some lured details which are not fit for public consumption. I appreciate the fact that we once were more interested in a politician’s stance on key issues than on a politician’s sex life. In fact, I was pretty happy not knowing politicians had sex lives. I realize that many of the things I do not like hearing about today were taking place in prior years. Certainly, I do not believe anyone should suffer any type of abuse and we should call people to a higher standard, especially those who would lead. We cannot go backward in time but the moral condition of our nation must be altered. This can only be done by turning hearts to the Lord. Our Lord Jesus came to offer hope for the hurting and forgiveness for the fallen. The only way to change our nation is to change hearts by drawing people to a personal, faithful relationship with Jesus. The miracles of Christmas are a reminder that God cares and He alone can heal our land.
